....but it's something I never learned before.

How do the planets stay on a constant orbit around the Sun, rather than being sucked straight in to it or, conversely, drifting out in to space? How do they remain at a largely constant distance from the Sun?

If so then that alien ship should have a very advanced technology like (anti inertia effect) which is still not possible by humans.

shadow and measure the energy radiating off the dark side of the earth and 12 hours earlier measure the amount of energy being received on the sunlit side so we can compare the two measurements and accumulate the data over a period of years to prove the earth is warming up or cooling off and how fast? I'm thinking of the Earth as a bomb calorimeter in a vacuum flask with a light shining on one side and reradiation of energy permited on the other. Any difference should be global change regardless of the source. Do we have the technology to do this accurately?

I saw it on CSI Miami a few weeks ago, and I'm really curious about that. I konw that they kind of explained how it worked, so I know theoretically it could work but what about in the real world?

I can't solve that one, but suspect the interaction of the Earth, Moon and a comet COULD capture a comet.

If so, would the comet be close enough to the Earth to generate a tail? How long would that last?
