1) No scientist will tell you that the world is going to end in 2012. It's an urban legend.

2) No scientist said the world was going end in 2000 either.

3) What does this have to do with the big bang?

Scientists don't think that the world will end in 2012, anymore than they thought it was going to end in 2000.
Some new-age gypsy folk and people who think they are mystical decided to look at the Mayan calendar, which had a cycle ending in 2012, and thought that it meant that the world was going to end.
I reckon I might sleep through this end-of-the-world, like I did the last one.

Ther is no science that makes claims of 2012 being the end of time as we know it. This doomsday date comes from the fact that the Myan calander ends on Dec. 20, 2012. So some people who like to believe in this sort of thing will worry about it till the day after, then claim that we were all miraculously saved because of something. Then they'll go on to pick another date in the near future to worry about.

I've seen many of these doomsday dates come and go over my lifetime, and hasn't been any sign of even an aborted doomsday yet. Also, this is nothing new, as people have been coming up with possible future doomsdays for as long as some of us have been able to stick our heads up our asses.

Scientists don't believe anything will happen in 2012, since the whole "end of the world" thing is a complete misunderstanding of a 5000 year old Mayan calendar.
If you read up on the Mayan Long Count calendar, you will see what it is about.
And there are a lot of "end of the world" sites (have been for years, since there is always something going to happen according to one prophecy or cult or another).

They got the numbers mixed up. The world will really end in 2210 when the sun gets sick of the constant bickering of the Earth's population, it will spit out a huge giant one hundred million degree cosmic plasma ball right at the Earth which will instantly vaporize the planet and leave a large cloud of dust atoms in orbit where the Earth was.

no scientist have ever supported the end of the world theories you need to get your facts straight

frankly that was an uneducated question and only dignifies a response in order to point out the stupidity by which it was asked

It isn't scientists who are making this wild claim. It's a FEW people with A LITTLE knowledge, who took note of the fact that the calendar of the ancient Mayans ends a cycle in that year, people who like to believe that the ancients possessed arcane knowledge unknown to modern science. This notion makes them feel more comfortable about their religious beliefs, and makes them feel validated in believing in other ancient so-called 'knowledge'.

I think that if God chooses to end the world in 2012, then it will end, but we cannot let an unscientific myth cause everyone to waste time wondering if and when they are going to die.

I think science is b.s. Only God knows when the world is going to end. The only reason why people think the world will end in 2012 is cuz that's when the Mayans ended their calendar.
