What's the big bright star appearing recently in the eastern Anchorage sky between approximately 5 and 9 a.m. Alaska Standard Time? It looks like a little sun, but I know it's gotta be a planet in our solar system. Serious replies only. Thank you.

I understand that the mayan calendar doesn't say the end of the world. and i understand that their are many other cultures with similar speculations. but will it end or change alot. will the earth be destroyed or not. If you have an answer, tell me reasons you belive it's true or false. Explain why the world can't end when NASA says this or that, thats one example. No opinions without facts from trust worthy sources like NASA, history channel, or encyclopedias, or if you are an astronomer or a science guy from a college or government facility

yeah, i'm looking for answers with good reasons (facts)

I'm sure many of you have been following the news about the International Space Station. About a week ago, I think it was, while they were unfurling one of the solar panels, they found one of them had a tear. But just recently, Scott Parazynski successfully repared it.

But I was wondering, is that a perminent repair? Or will the ISS need to get a new solar panel to replace that one at its earliest convenience? I understand it's fully operational now, but doesn't that repared section have a greater chance of being damaged in the future than pieces of solar panel that never broke?

If light travels at about 93,000,000 km / sec ( i rsaw that somewhere) and it takes about 8min and 18 seconds for light to reach earth ( I also read that somewhere) does that actually means if the sun blew up we would notice it 8 minutes later?

Well I'm writing an essay about how religion supports the status quo and that it is a conservative force on society. So, one example I want to use is the fact that ______ discovered that the world is round and rotates around the sun, but people did not want to accept that because they were scared people will lose faith in religion..blah bllah blah..so i need to know who that person was.
thanks!

I've heard that we have discovered planets outside our solar system because of the shadow they cast when they pass in front of their sun. Can we be missing planets whos orbit does not line up with their sun and our point of reference? Are there other ways to detect these planets?
