because, if this is true, then there are an infinite number of universes in existence as one expands into the other and so on, as waves in a big sea do.

if space can be warped by gravity. then wouldn't you be able to base a warp engine on some kind of massive pseudo gravity generator? like some useless star that we implode and use it to travel vast distances. of course we have to get to the first one first, but after that its all gravy. and maybe we can develop the technology in route scince we'll have a few lifetimes to get there anyway.

i don't know much if anything about extreme science but i can appreciate what some of you are working so hard at. i was looking at the picture of the "rotten egg" nebula. it is so beautiful i can't get the questions out of my mind, i mean i did the math and discovered it was like 8 trillion miles long! amazing! i was thinking, "what if its not natural? what if its a glimpse of a warp drive engine in full afterburner. crazy, i know. but it got me to thinking... is there somewhere in the hubble images where we could actually see space "bend" and wouldn't that show us that what you cats are talking about is more than theory? my hats off to all you quantum "nerds". i believe that if man can concieve of something than it probably can be done! keep on rockin'!!!!! i'm not overly religios but i do believe that when it all comes together science and religion will meet at the same conclusion, and it brings the bible to mind where god says, " seekmeandyoushallfindme". why do zeolots persist?

First, I do believe, and if you think about it, its impossible that there aren't any. Just think about how many stars there are just in our galaxy. Now think about how many of those stars have planets. and now think about how many galaxies there are. Does anyone else feel that its impossible that we could be the only living things in this Universe?

The sound was about 2 seconds behind the light. Sound travels at 769 mph. How far away was it?

(I calculated .47 miles away but that seems entirely incorrect.. I must have messed up.

I went to two websites, yahoo and google, and found my home on their satellite website. BUT, the photos from space were very old. I saw a car in my driveway that I sold over a year ago. Are there any satellite websites that are taken "now" of homes and not old satellite photos? Thank you...

My mom wasn't sure if it was true either, but said she thought she'd share it anyway:

Planet Mars is coming closer to the earth and will be the brightest planet in our night sky starting in August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. It will maximize on August 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on August 27 at 12:30 a.m. It will look like the earth has two moons. The next time Mars may come this close is 2287. Share this with your friends, as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE IT AGAIN.

The star could have died before it's light reached Earth. What if all we're seeing is just an image, a light, of the star, and not the real thing? If it takes hundreds of years for light, (which moves really quickly- it's how long it takes for you to "see" something, like an apple or a computer, right?)

And when we do watch a star die, are we really watching it die hundreds of light years after it's REAL death?

Or is it all just relative to the lifespan of the star?

It's 4:30 p.m. in south california (right by LA) and the sky and sun is RED! When you I stepped outside there was a reddish/ orange glow on my face, and the whole backyard/ pool-side also had a reddish tint. I looked down, and my shadow was an almost translucent blue! So bizzarre!

I looked up and there was a giant brownish red cloud in front of the sun (that's why everything's tinted) but other than that the sky is a clear blue. Why is that? I don't think it's pollution because I've never seen it in my life, and I've been to much more polluted places that this. Is it some weird gas?
