The sound was about 2 seconds behind the light. Sound travels at 769 mph. How far away was it?

(I calculated .47 miles away but that seems entirely incorrect.. I must have messed up.

That's about right. The speed of sound at ordinary temperatures is about 1100 feet per second, so figure 2200 feet.

About 2200 ft or about 2/5 of a mile. Your calculation appears good.

that is about right because i was taught with lighting 4 seconds=1 mile hope this helps

769mph ÷ 3,600 = 0.214 miles per second
2 x 0.214 = 0.428 ...near enough to ½ a mile away.
