While it's true that an Alien Invasion, Cometary or Asteroid impact and supervolcano erruption requiring a rapid escape seem slim possibilities the penalty for ignoring these threats and seeing them happen could be human extinction. As long as the odds might be I think that's too much to gamble on by doing nothing. Isn't it time the World created a Global Space Administration and we took serious strides to conquer the universe?

I think it's a really stupid and ignorant conclusion but I hear it all the time. What is this opinion based on? Wishful thinking. There is zero evidence to support this. imposing our own moral ideals upon utterly alien beings is an attempt at deifying them. All life on earth shares many characteristics in common. Therefore we can find some evidence of the complete opposite. Humanity is not becoming more peaceful and morally superior over time. Our weapons and use of them has if anything grown and there is no longer any honour in war. Hundreds of thousands of people can die at the touch of a button.

Why would a more intelligent species or one more technically advanced want to show any interest in our welfare? Thats crazy thinking. We use Dolphins in Japanese Restaurants, to entertain us at Sea World and plant mines on enemy ships. We give deadly viruses to Chimpanzee's to see if we can cure them or not. We destroy their habitat without concern.Most Alien societies will be like us.

In this modern day we are lucky to have witnessed images from the hubble space telescope and to discover so much about our galaxy and beyond. Yet its something you will only hear about on Nova or Discovery. It's rarely big news unless we touch down on the moon or next will be mars and soon after people stop talking about it. People talk about religion and gather in churches to discuss God yet we have so much to talk about in terms of what's beyond our world and ourselves. I just dont get people. I like to think while im on this earth ill like to learn as much about the world and beyond as well as form bonds with one another and set religion aside as just a figment of peoples imagination.

Im in the middle of the north sea between the shetland islands and stavanger{norway}
And last night and to night there are lots of shooting stars.
At first i thought that it was a distress flare, I contacted the control room who in turn contacted the supply boat and the standby boat.
and they both agreed it was not a distress signal.
So the only answer is The war of the worlds, or shooting stars.
I noticed that there where other questions to this phenomenon.
But they where in london.????

The history of cultures meeting is one of warfare and genocide. No species becomes the top dog of its world by being wimpy and peaceful. Alien life must exist. As surely as life appeared on this planet it must have appeared on others. It is only a matter of time before either we are visited or we go visit our nearest neighbours first. I think if we wait for them to come to us then we will be finished as an apex predator. The new arrivals will wipe us out along with any other 'problems' they encounter. Our planet is ripe for colonisation by bolder more aggressive colonists.

I am relatively certain I saw one as a child in the 70's long before I even heard their was such a thing. It was in a small community, not even a stop sign, round, silver with a dome on top a multiple flashing colored lights all around it in the field behind our house.
