I am relatively certain I saw one as a child in the 70's long before I even heard their was such a thing. It was in a small community, not even a stop sign, round, silver with a dome on top a multiple flashing colored lights all around it in the field behind our house.

A UFO is an unidentified flying object. So, if you saw something in the sky that you could not identify then you saw a UFO. That does not mean that it was an alien spacecraft.

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

UFO stands for "Unidentified Flying Objects."

Are there unidentified flying objects in our skies? Absolutely. Until a weather balloon is recognized as such, it is an unidentified flying object.

The question isn't whether there are unidentified flying objects. The question is if any of those unidentified objects are intelligent life visiting this planet.

I believe they are. I don't have any proof. None at all. But I think the universe is too grand and glorious for us to be the only ones.

Many scientists share my beliefs. They have even come up with an equation for finding the probablility of intelligent life on other planets. It's called Drake's Equation. Search for it in Yahoo. (It's too long and complex to print here.

I have seen strange lights in the sky. Although I have no idea if they were extraterrestrial visitors, I choose to believe they were. It give me a little more awe and wonder about the universe.

some flying overhead, like a meteor, is one thing, but when you watch objects at high speed making rightangle turns above you, now this is truly one vote for the ufo. I have seen these events taking place over the monashee mountains of bc and the rocky mountains.
when I was about 14-15, just before sputnik, I was standing on a second-floor balcony and glanced at the moon. The mystery kept me watching for roughly 20 minutes. I saw a red object, appear about half way down the moon, as seen my my observation area, and made a quarter circle of the moon, then went in to the center of the moon and disappeared. It seemed like a controlled object, haha, and not controlled by any gravity from the moon.

Why do not you're saying "Flying Saucer" once you propose "Flying Saucer"? constructive, it makes you sound like a tin-foil hat wearing nut, yet when the aluminum fedora matches... UFOs are authentic. Gasp. some thing someone sees contained in the sky and can't identity is an alien deliver. I have seen some in my life, in spite of the actuality that I have a fantastically reliable theory what they were, as a results of my journey with both aeronautical and psychological phenomenon. extraterrestrial beings are literally not authentic. you may really discover them in Hollywood. you may't swing a cat without hitting a 1/2 dozen on each and every cable channel. On Univision the extraterrestrial beings communicate Spanish. On Comedy imperative they walk right into a bar with a Rabbi and a priest. i imagine there replaced into an alien living contained in the Surreal global living house with Ron Jeremy and Tammy Faye Baker. None of them are authentic. fantastically Tammy Faye. (undesirable lady... can't even ward off jokes through lack of life tragically, oh nicely) "E.T." replaced right into a movie, not a documentary.

UFO means unidentified flying object, so if no one identified it, that means it's a UFO.

Technically, a strange bird, a shooting star, or a weather balloon can be a UFO. In that sense, they do exist, because there are many things seen flying that haven't yet been identified.

There may be aliens out there, but why would they let us see them and not come and introduce themselves publicly? I mean, we have stealth bombers and other invisible planes, and we're far from being advanced enough to journey to other inhabitable planets. They'd obviously be able to enter our atmosphere without being detected.

So I don't think the UFO's we see are flying saucers or creatures from another planet, unless of course they're playing a little prank.

Well, by definition, anything traveling through the air under its own power whose identity is not known (either to you or to someone else) is a UFO, so yes. Whether or not UFO's are piloted or sent by residents of another planet is a different issue altogether.

Anything flying in the sky which you can't identify is classified as a UFO. (Unidentified flying object) if you know what it is then its called an IFO (identified flying object).

UFO classification is given to everything that flies that can't be identified, not just alien things.

my mom saw a UFO once when she was in Colorado. It just kinda hovered above her for a second then it took off really fast and hovered over another mountian for a second then was gone. And she said it didn't make one sound. pretty weird.

Yes! UFOs' (Unidentifying Flying Objects') have to exist, others we would be able to identify them!
