While it's true that an Alien Invasion, Cometary or Asteroid impact and supervolcano erruption requiring a rapid escape seem slim possibilities the penalty for ignoring these threats and seeing them happen could be human extinction. As long as the odds might be I think that's too much to gamble on by doing nothing. Isn't it time the World created a Global Space Administration and we took serious strides to conquer the universe?

Humans should establish viable breeding populations off planet to insure that they can survive any disaster that might befall your planet. Any species that evolves to the point where they ask the question "Why?" has to make the attempt to survive as a species, but humanity may not muster the necessary resources to pursue this course. You may end up a footnote in galactic history.

Some people assume we will never be able to actually leave this planet ever; that it is just impossible so it is a waste of effort to try. Some people assume it is just too early to start trying; like it would have been too early for Columbus to try to go to the Moon. Some people just do not trust technology or the government at all. Many people do not see enough payback for what we have spent already. Some people only care about the here and now and not the future. Those are the ones who say we should only spend money on space after every problem on Earth is fixed first. Some (most) people assume NASA gets a lot more money than they really do. A lot of people don't see why they should pay tax dollars just so someone else (and not them) can travel in space. I think some of those (but not all) are good arguments. But I believe space is the future and if we give up on the future we are doomed.

They are doing a lot that they can to try and make space exploration an every day thing. However, until now you had only the governments that had money enough to spend in such high price tag missions. Now, the new era of commercialized space traveling could the exact answers to your question. As the saying goes, " The more, the marrier". Companies will compete each other to try and lure the costumers towards their franchise. This will result in "special deals" just like you get with plane flying. However, the biggest challenge is to try and find enough people who will pay the big ticket and get the business going.

Priority, no. We should continue to learn and reach, but at a sensible pace. The odds of such a catastrophe occuring in the next century are highly remote. There are more pressing threats on Earth that require more attention.

At the rate that we humans are destroying this planet, we better start thinking seriously on space exploration. We cut a lot of trees, burn a lot of petroleum, too many gases in the atmosphere( from cars and stuff), the ozone layer will be gone in a few decades, we produce a lot of trash that is not recyclable( like Styrofoam, pampers, etc), etc, etc, I think we should explore space not only for curiosity but for survival too.

Hunger, War, Disease. Fixing these problems should be our priority. Space Exploration should definitely take a seat up there if not for the sole purpose of looking for natural resources we can use and to further our knowledge of the universe

Humanity should make their own existence a priority.
An alien invasion is no threat. the greatest threat to the human race is the human race itself, and it may be well beyond any possibility of salvation!!!

I think we should do a better job of exploring inner space first before we bring our primitive, militaristic ways elsewhere. What does it take to bring out the best in human beings? We don't seem to know. We're good with logic and science, but we're not good with cultivating the excellence that is within us.

Humans are not meant to last forever, we are all going to die out in the end. I think we should forget about conquering the universe & just bum around earth like every other animal

Leave it for the rich with an interest in it. I am not sure what exactly exploration is going to do in defence of an alian invasion anyway.
