Im in the middle of the north sea between the shetland islands and stavanger{norway}
And last night and to night there are lots of shooting stars.
At first i thought that it was a distress flare, I contacted the control room who in turn contacted the supply boat and the standby boat.
and they both agreed it was not a distress signal.
So the only answer is The war of the worlds, or shooting stars.
I noticed that there where other questions to this phenomenon.
But they where in london.????

Thanks for reminding me about the Leonids. It is a meteor shower and these ones can be spectacular as they are fireball like rather than say the pencil streaks of August's Persieds. I remember the '98 shower coming a day earlier than everyone expected and watched 20 fireball like meteors in an hour, the last one went plasma (big white flash). You can probably confirm it was a Leonid from its direction. If you trace all their tails back in the sky you'll come to Leo ( look for a big backward question mark with a triangle to the left)

I think that flares are solar, Space ships are human and Shooting Stars are lit metorites burning in space. Every month in a different constellation there is a fiesta of "falling" lit meteorites which bear the name of the constellation (if in Leo it is called the Leonids).
