That is currently a hot question in debate which has yet to be answered. Despite five rovers being sent to Mars there has been no evidence of life, even in the form of bacteria or simpler organisms. Some scientists believe there exists (or existed) life on Mars and that the first organisms on Earth arrived here from Mars via a meteor.

There is no proof that life as we know it exists. But there is much we don't know. There are tube worms living at such great depths they would crush a man.And there are bacteria living in boiling water and also in the nuclear waste from the nuclear disaster in Russia. If life can exist under those circumstances who knows what other forms can exist elsewhere.

No one knows. Personally, I suspect strongly that there is microbial life on Mars. There is ice at the poles and ice is water. There's plenty of sunlight. Yes it's cold, but there are species on Earth that survive in extreme environments. I think we'll know soon.
