In Figure 9-22, projectile particle 1 is an alpha particle and target particle 2 is an oxygen nucleus. The alpha particle is scattered at angle 1 = 64.0° and the oxygen nucleus recoils with speed 1.10 105 m/s at angle 2 = 47.0°. In atomic mass units, the mass of an alpha particle is 4.00 u and the mass of an oxygen nucleus is 16.0 u.

(a) Find the final speed of the alpha particle.
(b) Find the initial speed of the alpha particle.

1. I am confused about max/min & 1st/2nd derivative. I thought the first derivative gives you max/min; but does the 2nd derivative just verify it or something?

2. I need help with this related rates problem (like how to set it up/START it):
V=1/3(pie)r^2h
*If you pour liquid in a container at 6 cubic feet per minute; the container has a height of 7 feet and the radius is 4 feet. What is the rate the liquid is rising in the container when the liquid is 3 feet deep?

3. How does a tangent line 'approximation' compare to finding the equation of a line tangent to a curve?

4. How are the mean value theorem and the intermediate value theorem related...in terms of derivatives?

5. If you have a limit problem, how do you know when to use the squeeze/sandwich theorem??? In general, WHEN do you use the aforementioned theorems?

6. How do you find the length of an interval (in regards to the bisection method)?

Thanks!

An object attached to the end of a string
swings in a vertical circle of radius 2.6 m as
shown. At an instant when theta=31 degrees, the speed
of the object is 13 m/s and the tension in the
string is 60 N.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s^2 :

What is the mass m of the object? Answer
in units of kg.

Have you ever watched the news about wild fire in California? Have you wonder what is the basic elements for fire to survive? Well just applied your h.s. physics into the equation. Fire needs oxygen to survive. The atmosphere on earth controls the element of h20.

Now I am going to go and applied this method and use it in the universe, space, and galaxy. The question I do not know is what element(s) do their atmosphere contain? If on earth, we need h20 to survive, then what do the universe needs to survive all this time and infinity? There must be somekind of space-atmostpheric thing that keeps them growing, right?

Any scientists could answer to my question would be a great help.

Distribute twenty apples among ten students in class, 20/10 = 2 apples for each student
And, distribute ten apples among ten students in class, 10/10 = 1 apple for each student
Now, distribute ten apples when there is zero student (no students in the class). 10/zero= then why it is always infinity for each student. And why is not = 0 or 10 ( because nothing is distributing and 10 apples are still there waiting for distribution) OR impossible division.

I was doing some searches concerning paranormal, etc. and found a lot of what appeared to be older pictures of mediums, psychics, etc. producing entities from their noses, etc. supposedly made from "ectoplasm". I assume that these were recognized psychics of the time. One photo showed what appeared to be a full body apparition appearing out of the psychics nose, another a face, etc.

Do any modern day psychics ever duplicate this phenomena, or was this just an old claim, and ectoplasm has now evolved to a different form, etc? Was any of this material ever scientifically analyzed to see what it was?
Are there any newer pictures of present day psychics doing this? Just wondering.
