The Rocket Ship
A rocket ship is to go from Earth to Planet X. It is a five-day trip, but the rocket holds only enough fuel for 3 days’ flight. Fuel stations 1, 2, and 3 are 1, 2, and 3 days’ flight from Earth respectively. The fuel stations are empty, but Earth has an unlimited supply of fuel. The rocket ship can leave fuel at stations 1, 2, and 3. What is the minimum number of days required to reach Planet X from Earth?

Alright I am in Chemistry preparing for a test and having some problems with my calculator.

Okay so here is the problem:
E=hc/lamba=(6.626 x 10^ -34 J-S) x (2.998x10^8 m / 1) x ( 1 / .154 nm) x ( 1nm / 1 x 10^ -9 m) = 1.29x10^ -15 J

I am coming out with 1.29 x 10^ -16 J

I have put it in there 5 times and done different problems and am always 1 power short. on every one of them Is it screwed up? I cant imagine 20 problems being wrong and me putting it in wrong that many times.

Btw I checked the problem I just typed in twice. It is correct.

The world population is expanding at a very fast rate and is not expected to even out until the next century. Considering the world is getting heavier every second, it is conceivable that it will eventually surpass the mass of the earth.
Will the population of the world become the same as the earth? What might happen then?

Is this even a valid question? If a star emits some photons, it has effectively transferred some of it's energy into light right? Now, this energy may spend eons tied up in a photon so as long as it does not hit anything. Does this happen? If so, does this represent a significant ammount of energy?

If a positive number is multiplied by 9 then subtracted from the square of the number the result is 10. Find the number.
I think the equation is;
x^2 - 9x = 10
Word problems are not my strongest math skill but with help I will get there.

You've seen them in games, television shows and movies, gigantic "battleships" or spaceships if you will. Is it even remotely possible? Take the space variable out of it and given that we have "thrusters" to move it and the fact of it's massive size, won't it take years just to complete one? And the resources, do we even have enough? What about the required amount of people just to keep it running? I'm sure there are other problems that prevent it from becoming possible but I can't think of them right now, what do you think, possible or not?

uGh! I have the most useless homework in math and I don't know when I'll EVER need to use some of this stuff in the real world. I know you need the basics, like adding and multiplying and all that, and how to measure and maybe fractions & percents. But seriously when will you ever need to know how to graph using slope intercept form or solve huge equations??
Anyone agree with me here?! =P
