First you need to know how many cubic feet are in a gallon (actually lets make that cubic inches it's easier). There are 231 cubic inches in a gallon.

20 feet = 240 inches
50 feet = 600 inches

So our "box" is 240" x 600" x 4"
240 * 600 * 4 = 576,000 cu. in.

Divide that by 231 to get the number of gallons
576,000 / 231 = ~2493.5065 gallons.

Change all sides to feet: 20 x 50 x 1/3.
Multiply to find volume: 100/3 cubic feet.
One cubic foot is 10 gallons: 333.3

One cubic foot = 7.48052 gallons. Thus, in this case, we multiply 20ft x 50ft x 1/3ft x 7.48052 gallons/ft^3 = 2493.51 gallons.
