An oil refinery is located on the north bank of a straight river that is 2 km wide. A pipeline is to be constructed from the refinery to storage tanks located on the south bank of the river 4 km east of the refinery. The cost of laying pipe is $200,000 per km over land to a point P on the north bank and $400,000 per km under the river to the tanks. To minimize the cost of the pipeline, how far from the refinery should P be located? (Give your answer correct to two decimal places.)

there is evidence to suggest that certain herbs can have an effect on human memory. A researcher plans to use a standardized memory test to evaluate the effect of the herbs. Scores on the standardized test form a normal shaped distribution of, standard deviation 15 and a mean of 70. The researcher obtains a sample on N=25 people and has each person take an herbal supplement every day for 30 days. At the end of the 30 day period, each person takes the standardized memory test and the mean score for the sample is calculated to be M=78

b)identify the critical region for the test assuming that the researcher is using alpha level =.05

What is the difference between an acid and a salt? I know that aqueous hydrogen is an acid and aqueous salt has many X+ or X++ in solution. Is acid not a salt because it is made of the same elements as the solution (H+ and OH-)? Gah! This never was my better point in chemistry.

I was thinking that if we attach some sort of gears on the top of the pendulum line, it would be able to produce motion and ultimately we could draw energy from it. This would also be able to be done regardless of weather or sunlight.

Sound good to me, but why dont we do it, or hear about it?

I am interested in the particular mechanism that causes itchiness in an allergic reaction. I am aware that a Type I hypersensitivity reaction (ie. allergic reaction) is due to mast cell degranulation causing histamine release. I am looking for the steps that follow leading to the itchiness (ie. proteins, receptors...) and any biological reason/advantage for this. Thanks!

I know there are many ways to calculate higher powers of i. Could anyone please tell, and show, me which one works best for you. Which method do you find the easiest and fastest to use.
For example in calculating

i to the 23rd power
i to the 100th power and so on.

Thank you in advanced. Your help is very much appreciated.
