Let's see... I'm gathering information to attempt writing a sci-fi story in a not-so-near, and most probably quite-distant future. I need some help with a few aspects of plate tectonics.

So, I understand plate tectonics are driven by the planet's internal heat (Part of it residual from original accretion and part derived from decay of radiactive material)

I also read somewhere that deep surface water is needed as a lubricant of sorts.

Now, I believe size is a constrain too. Small planets can't support active tectonics (I'm not sure about this and correct me if I'm wrong)

Now, if I am right on the statement above... Is there an estimate on how big is "big enough"? What do we need to make it work, mass, volume or both?

my mom says she remembers a susbstance from her chemistry classes a long time ago.she forgets what it is called, but i will explain it. she said it was a semi solid substance that her chemistry teacher had in a jar a long time ago. the teacher would take prongs and take a little of the substance out of the jar and quickly put the lid back on. she said it was a grayish color and it would spontaniously combust when it touched air. what is this substance called?

1) y= X squared - 4x + 3
y= x-1
so its x-1= x squared -4x + 3
where go from there? how to graph??

2) xy = -6
x+3y = 3
huh? thus one you dont have to graph just algebra.

On history channel i seen reports of airline Pilots from around the world have reported sightings of unidentified flying objects. Russian navy has experienced USO's and they could not explain it. For example mexico is known for UFO hotspot. DO u think US is testing some extreamly high tech airplains that are round in shapes and can just Float in mid air for hours and then they can out beat american fighter jets. Russians also tried to shoot down these UFO's but never managed to shoot them down. I personaly think UFO are from some different planet. Some ppl say " how can they fly over from light years away from her?" Answere is simple if u go extreamly fast then then " the clock starts going so slow its seems like 1 min is 3 hours for people on earth" Maybe UFO do exist and they know how band the time. Scientist in USA have tested this theory with rats and it worked but with humans there not sure how. Do u think UFO do really exist ? i mean militory pilots have also reported UFO's

I weigh about 165lbs and had say 20lbs of climbing gear on. Falling at 33ft/sec/sec I was in the air for just under one second. Could anyone tell me the force of impact? I landed somewhat flat on my back so the majour impact was spread over about say 4.5 to 5 sq ft.
(I was able to walk out of the hospital that night but spent the next 6 weeks onthe couch)

At the end, it has 11 people aboard. If the nmber of stops is greater than 17, what is the least number of stops the bus makes?

If anyone can figure this out, can you please help me step by step to figue this out? thank you verrry much! =D

i really need to know do you find the money base on the probability
for example:
there is a spinner for four equal regions. you spins the spinner 2 times and if you land on yellow and blue you win 5 dollars. how much money would you expect to make after 18 turns?
my method of finding the answer is that i find the probability of getting yellow and blue on those 2 turns. then i divide it into its simplest form and multiply the nunerator by 18. next i mulitiply the numerator by $5 . is my method right?

i noticed that where i grew up, on 1 side of Canada, i never heard the wind howling-whether the wind blew hard or soft, but here on the other side of Canada, whether it blows hard or soft, it howls. i had read stories about the wind howling, & could imagine what it sounded like (i cant remember if id heard it somewhere be4, i just somehow could imagine what it sounded like) , but i never heard it doin that. but now i hear it all the time. why? why is the meteorology different here than it is there?

another thing ive wondered; why do some parts of Canada get tornadoes, but not others? (we are not in a tornado area, but apparently are close 2 them-scary thought to some1 who grew up away from them)

A motorcycle daredevil is attempting to jump across as many buses as possible (see the drawing). The takeoff ramp makes an angle = 18.0° above the horizontal, and the landing ramp is identical to the takeoff ramp. The buses are parked side by side, and each bus is 2.74 m wide. The cyclist leaves the ramp with a speed of v = 31.0 m/s. What is the maximum number of buses over which the cyclist can jump?

During lecture, my math instructor explained that time and space isn't flat (like some scientist might theorize), but rather time and space is wavy. I was reading about the concept of wormholes from wikipedia, and looking for documented stories of the unexplained regarding time travel. Can anyone fill me in on the details?

I live in a Taiwanese family, but I learn Mandarin Chinese. However, my parents speak Taiwanese between themselves often, and for some reason, even though I have never learned Taiwanese or even know how to speak it, I can understand them. It's like the words go through my brain and I suddenly understand them. Then, I read about a scientist who proposed that genes from our ancestors were passed down to us. This might explain my problem, but is it true?
