I recently learned that when crystallizing something such as sulfanilamide, adding too much solvent (such as ethanol) results in little to no yield of purified crystals. Why does this occur?

You explaining something or links to websites that are not too dumbed down are fine, but try not to list websites that are hard to follow.

I noticed this on a clock at a shopping center in my neighborhood as well as a few grandfather clocks. Four is IIII instead of IV. Does that mean that any Roman numeral that has a four in it (e.g. 14, 24, 34) can have four I's instead of a IV? Also, 2 remain consistent, wouldn't "nine" be VIIII?

We'll be having our finals this tuesday and I need some help with the ff probs:

1.) A rectangular building whose depth is twice its frontage is divided into two parts by partition that is 30 ft from, and parallel to, the front wall. If the rear portion of the building contains 3500 ft^2, find the dimensions of the building.

2.) A man purchased some shares of stock for S1560. Later, when the price had gone up S24 per share, he sold all but 10 of them for S1520. How many shares had he bought?

3.) Draw a sketch of a line passing through the point P(-1,6) and having slope m = -2. Also sketch a line through the same point having slope m= -1/2

4.) Draw a sketch of a line passing through the equation 5x+2y-10=0 by finding the axis and y axis intercept?

Okay so i wrote the balanced equation, and thats pretty much all i can do.. if someone can help me that would be so great.. thanks !

CH3C6H13(l) + O2(g) --> 5CO2(g) + 8H2O(l)

Write a balanced equation for the combustion of CH3C6H13(l) (methyl hexane)
-- i.e. its reaction with O2(g) forming the products CO2(g) and H2O(l).

Given the following standard heats of formation:

* deltaHf° of CO2(g) is -393.5 kJ/mol
* deltaHf° of H2O(l) is -286 kJ/mol
* deltaHf° of CH3C6H13(l) is -173.0 kJ/mol

What is the standard heat of reaction (deltaH°) for the combustion reaction of CH3C6H13(l)?

The next question is

Calculate the difference, deltaH-deltaE=delta(PV) for the combustion reaction of 1 mole of methyl hexane.
(Assume standard state conditions and 298 K for all reactants and products.)
