I'm stuck on this one section on my Algebra II/Trig summer assignment; the directions say "Write the fraction as a sum of terms." What does THAT mean? I tried searching the web for "sum of terms" but I get all these websites with confusing explanations. Can someone help me, please?

Example problem:

x^2 - 4x + 2 (fraction bar) x

^2 = second power/exponent 2

I have to show that, along the plane curve x=x_1(t)e_1 + x_2(t)e_2, that the curvature is

k = | x_1' x_2'' - x_2'x_1''| / [|(x_1')^2 + (x_2')^2|^(3/2) ]

The formula I've got for curvature is

||T’(t)|| / ||r’(t)||

But how do I get T(t) and r(t) with just x(t)?

no one has been able to give a good answer to these mysteries,its apparent that some form of intelligence created them but who and how?This really intresting seeing all of our so-called great minds trying to come up with a reasonable answer then come away scratching their heads.surely we can do better than that or can we?my answer is i dont think we are as advanced as we think we are inspite of all the advancements we have made. I have this last problem for homework and I can't figure it out.

Consider a unit circle with an inscribed equilateral triangle. A chord is selected at random. What is the probability that the chord is longer than a side of the triangle?

Wouldn't it be very hard to measure how each chord that could be drawn to make sure it is longer than a side but less than the diameter.
