I have received a few IR spectra of un unkown compound, which is a solid probe.The IRs were taken on both surfaces: glossy and opaque. The peaks of each face of the probe are almost the same for each type of absorbtion, just the amount of energy absorbed is different(for ex.: at 1238cm-1 for one face I have 85%(glossy face) of absorbance and for the other 80%(opaque face)). What could cause this difference of absorbance for the same functional group? The two spectra, often, are overlaped, the shape of the peak is the same, but also I have a difference of 5-10% in absorbance.
Around 2350cm-1 on one spectra I have a weak (double peak) absorbtion and on another spectra I have a peak with the same shape but seen in a mirror; instead to have a peak downward, I have upward.

Please help me....
For more information, I could send you a pdf copy of the spectra.

I am told that chemistry has not been reduced to known elementary particle physics. Usually, we would say that the problem is that the equations are too complex. I am curious to know some simple examples of this difficulty. The simpler is the atom or the molecule in the example the better it is. It would also be interesting to know a property of a complex atom or molecule that we have reduced to elementary particle physics, but it is not what I ask, though it is closely related.

My motivation to ask this question is to get a feeling for how much "evidence" we have that it is only a problem in solving the equations. If we have succeeded for *all* observed properties up to some reasonably high level of complexity (in the number of particles/atoms) and it is seems clear that there is nothing special in the next step except the additional particle/atom, then it is good "evidence" that it is just a problem in solving the equations. Otherwise, maybe there is a more fundamental problem.

A rabbit is running on a straight line with velocity v=2m/s. A wolf is lying 40m from the line .The moment the rabbit is 40m far from the wolf , the wolf realizes it and starts to pursue it with v=2m/s .After 40 seconds, what is the minimum distance between them?

This is what I did:

displacement= Velocity x time--> 2 m/s x 40 s= 80 m

this is for the rabbit since it runs at a constant velocity throughout the run/chase

The wolf however starts from rest than accelerates to 2m/s and pursues rabbit therefore
displacement= avg. velocity x time= Vi+Vf/2 x time= 0+2m/s /2 x 40 s= 40 m

The minimum distance between the wolf and the rabbit after 40s is 80m-40m= 40m

The answer is not 40 meters and I don't know what else it can be. Please help!

Its not matter, Its produced by burning matter. Its not an energy, it gives out energy- heat and light. My physics teacher told me everything is either matter or energy but fire doesnt seem to be either

so we have the circle x²+y²=10, which means its center is at (0,0) and it has a radius of √10. it has two tangents (i think it's two) that pass through the point (5,5). what are the general equations (form ax+bx+c=0) of the two lines?

that's all that's given, it cannot be impossible, and i've seen something like it on Answers. immediate help would be gladly gladly appreciated.

Find the present value of 11 payments of 3576 made at the start of each year. Interest is 9% compounded annually.

I got this answer: 24335.39 which is wrong!
The correct one is: 26525.58 <
I have done it this way.. but I got the wrong answer....

3576 * [ (1 - (1.09)^-11 )÷ 0.09 ] = 24335.39

where did I go wrong?

Given that y=sin^-1 x, find the series expansion of y in ascending powers up to and including the term in x^3.

I have done this part and i got y=x+x^3/6 but you can double check.

Hence, by choosing a suitable value of x, deduce the result of pi to five decimal place.

i sort of used pi/2=y=sin^-1 x
so x=1
then pi= 2 x (1+1/6)
but this answer is like very far from the true value of pi!!
