It sounds obvious....but really, why are they the same color?

They aren't the same color. The color of the yolk changes if the chicken is fed different food. You can get darker colored yolks by feeding more corn or lighter colored yolks by feeding more of another grain or meat (worms and such that the chickens will pick up for themselves).

The color of egg yolk is determined by the diet of the hen that layed it. If the chicken has a diet high in plants that are mainly yellow, the yolk will be yellow as well. Farmers have also been known to supplement the chickens diet to make the egg yolks deeper in color.

Ever opened the egg from a black chicken? The yolk is NOT black.

A farmer where I lived in Colorado, many years ago wanted to precolor shells of eggs for Easter. So, he fed them feed mixed with food color. The color ended up in the yolks- red, yellow, blue, green.

yea lol it really is obvious. the egg yolk IS a baby chick.
