1. When Max recieved 10x tapes, he then had 5y + 1 times as many tapes as ge had orginally. In terms of x and y, how many tapes did Stanley have originally?
1. 10x(5y + 1) 2. 5y + 1 over 10x 3. 2x over y 4. 10 over 5y + 1 or 5. None of the above

I got 3 but I'm not sure if it's right.

2. If x>0 and y>0 and x^9=4 and x^7 = 9 over y^2, which of the following is an expression for the value of x in terms of y?

1. (4/5)y 2. (2/3)y 3. (3/2)y^2 4. 6y 5. 36y^2

This I had no idea how to do.

Thanks for any help. Please show steps if possible.

When there's a solar halo (a "glory" around the sun, or sunbow), I notice that the region between the ring and the sun looks darker than the rest of the sky. Even though it's closest to the sun!

When there's a double rainbow, I notice that the region between the two bows looks darker than the rest of the sky.

Can anyone explain the optics of this? What's going on...

Life came from the ocean - if you believe in that keep reading, if not, this question will not be suitable to you (no offense, it just makes disproving me harder). Life began in the ocean, and then evolved into animals that eventually found their way onto land. Theoretically, we evolved from modern apes, and because we were better suited to survive and were able to eat more protein, our brain grew larger, and we became smarter.

Now - thinking that - wouldn't it be 99% feasible that there would be some kind of intelligent fish men/women in the oceans, which cover 75% of the earth. They wouldn't have been harmed as much as our species on land, because they are so far below in the water - and thus evolution would not have paused for their kind, but kept on going, to something truly magnificent - the highest point of evolution thus far.

Yes / No?

The entire day I spent in my house, windows closed. Not once did a mosquito bother me. Until I went to bed! Then she attacked!
How does she find me every night?

Why doesn't she go to the living room and hang out there?

It seems she is so small she should have to spend all night in the living room combing that room for an ear to buzz and feet to sting!

Quad. Equat. Claification please?
EXAMPLE:
1) x² +3x+1 = 0
2) [Sol] x²+3x=-1
3) (x+ 3/2)² -9/4=-1<--(The left side is changed to include the square of a ploynomial)
4) (x+3/2)²=4/5
5) x+3/2= √5/2
6) x=-3√5/2
*Writing a Quad. form equation in the form of (x-d)²=e is called completing a square*

My question is this, in step 3) where did the "3/2" and the "-9/4" come from?

We are started with the equation in step 1) x² -+3x+1 = 0 but we can't factor it, when and how do you pull out the two "fractions"?

Two nonconservative forces are present: friction does -2.00 104 J of work on the car, and a chain mechanism does +3.00 104 J of work to help the car up a long climb. What is the change in the car's kinetic energy, KE = KEf - KE0, from A to B?

In an electrolysis experiment, a student observed that his unknown metal anode lost 0.208g while a total volume of 96.30 mL of H2 was being produced. The temperature in teh laboratory was 25 degrees Celcius and the barometric pressure was 748 mm Hg. At 25 degrees Celcius the vapor pressure of water is 23.8 mm Hg. To find the mass of his metal, he filled in the blanks below. Fill in the blanks as he did.

PH2=Pbar-VPh2o =_______mm Hg=______atm
VH2=____mL=_______L
T=______K
nH2=_____moles nH2=PV/RT (where P=PH2)

1 mole H2 requires passage of ____________faradays

No. of faradays passed = ___________

Loss of mass of metal anode =_______g

No. grams of metal lost per faraday passed = no. grams lost/no. faradays passed=__________g=EM

The student was told that his metal anode was made of iron.

MM Fe=__________g. The charge n on the Fe ion is therefore__________.

Can anyone help? I'm confused....
