That relationship is stated by Dolbear's Law, and is quite accurate. What does it mean to us? I'm not sure what you're asking. It's fascinating. It's convenient if you don't have a thermometer. It's amazing that such a simple animal can measure temperature that accurately and consistently. It's hard to imagine an evolutionary basis for that skill.
