No. Tylenol is acetaminophen, primarily a fever reducer and pain reliever. Advil IS Ibuprofen, which is an anti-inflammatory, also a fever reducer and pain reliever. Tylenol will not help with inflammation. It may help pain, but I would go out and get some Advil or Aleve. Aleve is also an anti-inflammatory. Just go to a drug store and talk to a pharmacist. They may be able to help you with what OTC drug to take and at what dosage. Hope this helps.

Advil and Motrin are brand names for ibuprofen, they are all the same thing. While aspirin is in the same class as ibuprofen, it is acetylsalicylic acid, and is not the same drug.
Tylenol, on the other hand, is a completely different medication. It does absolutely nothing for inflammation, but does provide pain relief. If your problem is due to inflammation, Tylenol will not do much to relieve your pain. I would reccomend that you stick with the advice you were given, and go pick up some generic ibuprofen, which is quite inexpensive (I usually pay $2 for 24 tabs), and will be the most helpful.

Tylenol Extra-Strength is a pain reliever but it does not have the anti-inflammatory properties of Advil or Motrin ( both are generically known as Ibuprofen). The best medication for a shoulder inflammation would be Advil or Motrin or generic Ibuprofen - Advil and Motrin are known as NSAIDS which stands for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which work well to relieve the inflammation but can upset the stomach so don't take it on an empty stomach - just as Aspirin can irritate the stomach lining and cause bleeding when taken over a period of time or in large doses on an empty stomach, so can Advil or Motrin. Tylenol Extra strength is good for headaches or fever but does not work as an anti-inflammatory. You are better off with Motrin.but remember to follow doctor's instructions and don't take more of the medication than he advises you to.

They aren't the same, but you can take the Tylenol anyway for the swelling and pain. Tylenol is aspirin free, so it won't upset your stomach. Advil and Ibuprofen are one in the same drug and should be taken with food, it cause stomach upset. Also, if the pain is severe, you can alternate the two, Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Oh and by the way, the store brands are the exact same thing, so shop cheap and get the same effect.

No. Advi is the brand names for ibuprofen and Aleve is the brand name for naproxen. These a NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Tylenol is the brand name for acetaminophen. It is not an anti-inflammatory. You will probably find better pain relief with ibuprofen or naprosyn for shoulder inflammation, but Tylenol is an effective pain reliever.

yes, what they said above is true, but let me add my 2 cents.
I was told that the way tylenol vs ibuprofen works on the body is thusly..
tylenol blocks the pain receptors in the brain, it does nothing to the muscles, it only masks you from sensing the pain. whereas ibuprofen actually goes directly to the muscle and releives the inflamation.. thereby reducing the pain...

Tylenol is fine to take but it won't get rid of the inflamation. I think Tylenol is more like aspirin, both are acetaminophen, but they'll all do the same job at taking care of the pain. The others, along with Motrin, will take care of the pain and the inflamation.

Tylenol is acetaminophen which is a pain killer but ibuprofen is a pain killer and reduces inflammation. So no, they are not the same.
