I'm trying to prove the Modified Internal Rate of Return (MIRR) function in Excel. The formula provided by 'Help' take the product to the power of "1/(n-1)". It's been a long time since math class and I don't remember how to compute 'exponential fractions'.

It seems to me intuitively that if you were suffering from an acid burn the last thing you would want to do is pour more acid on it. However - there's a scene in the movie Fight Club where Ed Norton's character is suffering from an acid burn while being held down by Brad Pitt's character. Finally, Pitt reveals Norton of his suffering by pouring vinegar on the burn - and - almost instantly - the pain is relieved.

Similarly, in the HBO Series "Carnivale", there's a scene where a man purposely disfigures his face by submerging it in hydrochloric acid. After he's done (and screaming in pain of course) - you see him pour a bottle of vinegar on his face to stop the pain.

I can't believe that this tidbit would be in 2 different productions and not have some vaildity to it.

Can someone please explain if this is fact or fiction - and - if it's true that vinegar does relieve the pain from acid burns - why??

I am suffering with a stomach virus. Tons of gas, diarrhea, no vomiting. For 5 days now. As I am 2 yrs post-gastric bypass, I thought this was a by-product. I know others who have had that surgery who have had this happen.

But I am thinking it might not be related at all. And because I am at a new job, my health insurance will not go into effect for 13 more days. So no doctor’s visit is possible.

Does anyone know if stool that is dark green is a problem? Or, indicative of a larger issue? I am TERRIFIED about that. That began last night. Everyone I have spoken to has made me clarify if it is “black” or dark green. Clearly, black is a huge issue. It is not black at all, but dark green. And no, I have not eaten any vegetables in the last 72 hours.

If this is just a stomach virus, I can deal with it. If it is something bigger, I am too frightened to say what I will do. Have stuck to toast, chicken broth, Gatorade and cranberry juice for the last 2 days. Will do so today, too.
