Well, for humans, that would probably be in the near future. And the sun won't implode for a long time. But thats not what we need to be worried about. The sun expanding into a red giant is.But luckily, that wont happen for another 4 to 5 billion years. Unfortunately, i think humans would be lucky to survive the next 500 years.

In approximately 4-5 billion years the sun wil begin to enter red giant phase. It will billow out to such a size it will engulf the earth and even mars.
As for if and when we kill ourselves, I don't think anyone can answer that.

Well, there is no chances for the world to quit... even if the sun and the atmosphere quits... Still, if the world quits we will still live! This is because our DNA can change adopting us to this kind od situation. So, we will be adopted by our DNA to live without these. anyway it will take about a ten thousand years for the change to take place. A sudden disaster can lead to the end of the world!

Somehow, the perfect harmony of the solar system will collapse and the Earth be no longer on a safe distance from the Sun! That would be beginning of the end!

The world has ended several times already. Comets and volcanic activity has wiped out all life in the past but the planet has survived. I believe that mankind will bring about their own end but the planet will continue to survive.

It will start ending when we start running out of natural resources for energy, which has already happened. My dream is to be alive for 40 more years to see the price of the galon of gas. Say $125.00 in todays money. Wars will start when the belt gets tight. Haven't they already started? Yes, Iraq, Chechnya, Nigeria...
Global warming will actually be reduced in the long run, but it will likelly be too late as crops will start dramatically fail, so those sources will be limited. Terrorrists like Bush and his kind will have to be fought. Disease from hunger and starvation will reduce the world population as well.
Gloom and doom. Yes, lots of it, but it can be reversed and it will take everyuone of us doing their share. I bike and walk wherever I can, even in -5 C weather here in Iowa.

If we kill ourselves this does not mean the end of the world. Mass extinctions have happened before.

Dont ask any right wing bible thumpers this question. They will spout off some silly nonsense about the book of revelation.
I personally think mankind will wipe themselves out before the sun burns out.

The sun will cook anything left over but in hundreds of million years in the future I don't think that there will be anyone left to see it.
