noo, furnitures are fume hoods, fireproof cabinets, explosionproof cabinets, specially designed shelves, special tables for balances or for HPLC machines. tables designed to resist the most aggressive chemicals, and so on.
That is not so strange, you can go and buy at Ikea a table specially designed for computers ! It's the same, every kind of work need specialized stuff.
