I have a cheap Vicks Steam Vaporizer/humidifier that produces this weird black floaty gunk in the water basin. Anybody know what it is?

In digesting a certain plasmid with restriction endonucleases, how do we explain if
1. One (biggest) fragment from the digestion has a size larger than the plasmid itself, and this fragment is outside the range of the molecular markers used for the digestion..contamination?
2. Why a lane for the uncut plasmid has more than one band?(since no enzyme is added, no digestion should have occurred and only one band is expected...)

it would be great if you can provide me the source of info..thanks~

These are three questions on my homework, you can choose which one to solve, and whoever has the best, explained answer will get a best answer, guaranteed!

Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to the given line and passes through the given point.

1) y= 2x - 1, ( 2, 4 ) 2) y= -1/3x + 2, (5,1) 3) y= 4x + 5, (4,3)

For example, can anyone tell me what's the nearest distance between 2 points on a sheet of paper? Most of them would say a straight line joining them would be the shortest distance. I read somewhere that it's actually zero. The trick is this, you fold the paper and woo! zero distance! This applies I think to this universe as well. For example you want to go to this place in maybe Saturn. If you have the power to fold space and time you would be there instantly! Sounds interesting but like impractical.

To add on the time travel, i think that the fact we can travel back in time only if we can go beyond the speed of light.(although i think we will break into massless particles before we hit it) but i think seriously maybe in the future when we invent more we can do this time travel.

a boy has a pen that is of length 10cm, measured to the nearest centimetre.
His pen case is of length 10.1m, measured to the nearest millimetre.

Explain why it might not be possible for him to fit the pen in the pen case.

(is it something to do with that the pen might be 10.49cm and the case might be 10.5?... if so how do i explain it)

I'm not sure if I've phrased the subject correctly, but I'm still unsure of the outcome of this classic contest.. Imagine that one day an alien comes and zap our moon, making it disappear.. Will we see the tide rises and falls before seeing the moon disappear? i.e. Will the influence of gravity be exerted faster than the speed of light? Of is C the ultimate speed limit of all things?

Find the are of the smaller rectangle (inside the larger one) given that the area of the larger rectangle is 2x^2 + 9x + 10.

The Width of the larger rectangle is X+2. The width of the smaller rectangle is 2.

It is tough to imagine without the picture in the book, but the smaller rectangle is shorter in both length and width, by X (or the unknown length of X)

Not looking for a numerical answer, just the mathmatical equation which represents the area of the smaller rectangle.

There is no length given for either triangle.

Is there anyone who might help in solving this seemingly simple problem??

Thanks for any help. I know it has something to do with factoring a trinomial...since that is the chater we are on.
