Maybe I can talk you into designing your own system.

The infrared source is easy. Any light bulb, even a flashlight bulb. If you want to put a red filter on it, OK. Maybe a piece of red cellophane.

The receiver is also easy. Radio shack has photoresistors. Their resistance changes with light, including infrared. They come five in a box. You can pick one that will do the job you want. You can put the photoresistor at the end of a tube, like 1/2" plastic, so it only sees a small area around the light source. This is called columnating. It may be necessary so that stray light doesn't interfere.

I don't know what you want to do with the system. Maybe ring a bell or turn on something. This will require a power supply at the receiver and perhaps a relay or amplifier circuit.
