If you put hot water in a vacuum / thermos bottle, it will stay hot due to the vacuum insulating it from the outside air.
There is a 93 million mile vacuum between us and the sun, yet when I go outside, it feels hot.
Why?

Three volatile compounds X, Y, and Z each contain element Q. The percent by weight of element Q in each compound was determined. Some of the data obtained are given below.

Compound---Percent by Weight of Element Q---Molecular Weight
X ----------- 64.8% ---------------------- ?
Y ------------ 73.0% ----------------------- 104.
Z --------------- 59.3% ---------------------- 64.0

(a) The vapor density of compound X at 27 degrees Celsius and 750. mm Hg was determined to be 3.53 grams per liter. Calculate the molecular weight of compound X.

(b) Determine the mass of element Q contained in 1.00 mole of each of the three compounds.

(c) Calculate the most probable value of the atomic weight of element Q.

I heard that after 10 years our whole body is different as existing cells, particularly the skin layers die off and are replaced by new ones. I'm curious to know why the ink does'nt get expelled along with it! Anyone know why/how ?

Use principles of atomic structure and/or chemical bonding to answer each of the following.

(a) The radius of the Ca atom is 0.197 nanometer; the radius of the Ca2+ ion is 0.099 nanometer. Account for this difference.

(b) The lattice energy of CaO(s) is -3,460 kilojoules per mole; the lattice energy for K2O(s) is -2,240 kilojoules per mole. Account for this difference.

Ionization Energy (kJ/mol)
First Second
K 419 3,050
Ca 590 1,140

(c) Explain the difference between Ca and K in regard to

a. their first ionization energies,

b. their second ionization energies.

(d) The first ionization energy of Mg is 738 kilojoules per mole and that of Al is 578 kilojoules per mole. Account for this difference.
