Six digit ZIP code or PIN Code as called in India ( Postal Index Number Code) are not for a state but for a particular post office. Whole of the India in divided in zones, the first digit of the code denotes the zone, second & third denotes the city, forth , fifth & sixth digit indicates the number of the perticular post office.

Say for example, 400 001 ia the PIN code for Mumbai Main Post office. 4 is the zone, 00 is the city i.e Mumbai & 001 is the nomber of PO or Head Post office.

Tamilnadu is covered under zone 6.
