Simply, genetically modified organisms have had a gene or two added to their DNA by scientists, using artificial means.

Genetically modified organisms are living things that underwent the scientific process called genetic modification. Genetic modification is the alteration of certain genes of organisms to produce desirable traits (this is the usual purpose of it). For Example, A corn which produces small cobs and below quality kernels can be genetically altered to improve some of its characteristics like making it bigger, having more kernels in the cob. Genetic modification is intended for producing better quality of food for the world but it also has some negative effects such as exploitation of the living organisms, which could result to the alteration of the flora and fauna of the world.
