Light can be concentrated in to bright spot by using a lens.ie,light is 'intensified'.Similarly, is it possible to concentrate heat energy, say, by using a "thermal lens"?

For instance, in the theory of relativity where E=mc2, How is E measured. Let's say mc2 = 10 (just a made up number here). That would be 10 what? I can't just say 10 units of energy.

I'm a noob in Physics, so forgive me if this is a dumb question.

Also, are you a physics student, a professional physicist, or just an average person with an interest in physics. (Not that you're average person has an interest in physics mind you) ;)

If eons ago the moon compressed out of dust and was captured by the earth's orbit after some explosion somewhere, how did something so chaotic develop into such a precise configuration?

If you were in charge of calculating how to make a moon hit the orbit of a planet with exactly the right spin on it so that it always has the same side facing the planet, the parameters would be very specific. How can nature have done that?

With other operations that are so specific, like mutations in evolution, there are billions of iterations that bring precise configurations, but with the moon there was only one shot.

nvolving the selection of two students from a committee of students. Assume that the committee is made up of 2 males and 5 females. Two are selected at random, and a random variable X is defined to be the number of males selected.

How many different values are possible for the random variable X?

it is 3

PART 2:

Fill in the table below to complete the probability density function. Be certain to list the values of X in ascending order.

Can anyone actually explain to me how this mathematics question was does as I had it in an engineering test but couldn't do it:
You need to determain whether the length of copper a copper rod oven will expand by more than 2% of the original length when heated. Information you have suggests that heating to 1500 degrees C, will not result in greater expansion the the required 2%.
1)Is this information correct?
2) If not, what is the maximum temperature the rod can be heated to in order to stay within the expansion limits?
The information you have is:
The equation relating original length 'I*o' and length 'l' at temperature 't'.
l= l*o(1+at) 'a' is the coefficient of linear expansion, and 't' is the temperature.
Values given are 'I*o' = 0.250m, 'a'= 1.7× 10 to the power -5.

I would appreciate any help with this question as a question similar will come up on my JAR 66 aerospace engineering licence.

Thanks

I'm going to be there the 22nd to the 27th. Any ideas what the weather's like, and what I should pack? I know the pools are heated and all that already. I was thinking mostly taking shorts and tees. Should I take more than 1 ea. of sweatshirt and jeans? We've already got everything planned out, and I know I don't need anything dressy.
