When you have an upside-down cup with a lemon and 3 matches lit under it, plus water covering the opening of the cup on the bottom, the water gets sucked up into the cup. Why does this happen? I need a very thorough explanation.

I had an aluminum slug that I measured the mass of as 8.669g.

The length was 2.8cm

The radius was .950 cm

The volume (using a volumetric cylinder) was 3.5cm^3^. We are supposed to do a calculated volume using (pi*r^2^*h) also..but when I do it with the formula, it doesn't come out the same both ways. I think I'm following everything, but it's just not coming close to being equal. Am I doing something wrong, or did we (more than likely) not measure something right?

A student read that plants require several essential elements for healthy growth and decided to fertilize his yellowing begonia. When he mixed the plant food, he made the solution 3 times as concentrated as the directions suggested. The next day his plant was not only yellow, but also wilted.
