i have been staring at a close up picture of the moon for some while... if the moon was originally an asteroid that impacted earth.. did it wipe out the high lands (higher then sea level) to create the expanse we know as the Pacific?

i am also wondering if the moon is partly made up of all the countries that should be where the pacific ocean is today.

I understand that allah was a moon god, Is there any mention of how the moon came about in the Koran?

My friend and I are both enrolled in Calculus II, but at different Universities. I'm at SUNY Brockport, and she's at Buffalo State College, both in New York. We thought we had the same book, but apparently we don't and I'd like to know the difference.

My book is called: Calculus: Early Transcendentals Single Variable 5th Edition by James Stewart. It is black and blue/green with the corner of a violin on the right side of the front cover that looks like an integral sign (how cute.)

Her book is Calculus: 5th edition by James Stewart. Same guy. Her book is black and brown though....even with the same design.

So what is the difference? What does it mean by "Early Transcendentals Single Variable?" Will the chapters and numbered questions be the same?

See, she hasn't bought her book yet and we were going to share mine for the time being, but if her class requires the brown version and mine the blue...then we're not sure if we can.

anyway help would be grand! thanks!

My son is a senior in High School and Mathematics come so natural to him. He says the answers to any mathematical question just come to his mind. He doesn't have to work the problems on paper....he just knows. He excelled in Physics, Biology and other Sciences too. He's extremely athletically coordinated too and is active in Wrestling, Volleyball and now Football. I hate to see him waste a God-given gift because he doesn't have real guidance. He needs a mentor to truly see where his gift can take him. Can't find that in High School and unfortunately for him I'm not sure how to help him either. Any ideas?

I was driving thru the Altamont Pass yesterday and noticed some windmills turning and some not. Three windmills would be turning and the next 4 or 5 windmills in the same row, were not. Why?

Physical significance would be nice, and cartesian components if possible. Perhaps there's an identity I'm missing that would shed some light on the situation.

A friend of mine has just taken some breathtaking pictures of the moon (with a Nokon D200 and 600mm lens) The detail is incredible, i can not believe this planet is 250 million miles away...

In staring in amazement at the images, i was wondering where the USA flag is located. ie. "At about 10 o'clock near the biggest creator impact" or near a named location that i could look up on google. BTW my google searches only came up with the hoax theories, most annoying.

Thanks for any relevent or interesting answers. 10 points to the best one of course! Many thanks, Maximus
