Grass waterways (vegetated waterways) are open channels to convey irrigation water or storm water run-off. It is a type of open channel in which grass or other vegetation is used due to the following advantages over other lined channels:
- it can reduce soil erosion
- it can stabilize bank of waterways
- low construction and maintenance cost
The following factors must be considered in designing a grass waterways
-the type of soil
- type of vegetation cover
- the slope of the land
- the amount, intensity, and seasonal occurrence of rainfall the given area receives

I just made one this year. It is when you plant grasses or other hardy rooted plants in gullies and ditches so they dont get eroded by occasional heavy rains. Usually applies to fields with hills or terraces.
