A friend of mine has just taken some breathtaking pictures of the moon (with a Nokon D200 and 600mm lens) The detail is incredible, i can not believe this planet is 250 million miles away...

In staring in amazement at the images, i was wondering where the USA flag is located. ie. "At about 10 o'clock near the biggest creator impact" or near a named location that i could look up on google. BTW my google searches only came up with the hoax theories, most annoying.

Thanks for any relevent or interesting answers. 10 points to the best one of course! Many thanks, Maximus

Hubble View of Apollo 17 Landing Region on the Moon

This image showcases Hubble Space Telescope's first high-resolution ultraviolet and visible imaging of the Apollo 17 landing region within the Taurus-Littrow valley of the Moon. Humans last walked and drove on the lunar surface in this region (marked "+" in the image) in December 1972. The image was taken Aug. 16, 2005 by Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys. North is at the top of the image. The image was processed by the Hubble Space Telescope Lunar Exploration team at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Northwestern University, and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Below is a link to a map showing where the 6 Apollo missions landed. They all left flags (though they are probably in sorry shape after 17-1/2 years in sunlight without even the benefit of any ozone. I wonder if they blacken after the dyes fade? They may have even crumbled.

Buzz Aldrin says the Apollo 11 flag fell over when they took off.
