sounds like you may be referring to a "stethascope"
a stethascope has ear pieces that fit in the ears and tubes that connect the ear pieces to a disk
the disk is placed on a part of the body the doctor wants to listen to (often the heart or lungs or intestines) and the doctor gets an amplified sound from the specific area
a stethascope is a primart tool for diagnostics
