Why does everyone always act so surprised when the intelligence services do things to make it harder to investigate them or provide (necessary) government oversight over their activities? The destruction of the CIA interrogation tapes that involve "waterboarding" is a perfect example.
Doesn't anyone remember the history of these agencies? They get out of line every decade or so and only congressional investigations act to provide any outside restraint. Remember the Church and Pike committee hearings in the 1970's? The Iran-Contra hearings in the 1980's? It is a pity our congress is so pathetic these days, because they would never take the political flak that such hearings would generate today for them. Which means that the word "oversight" has lost any meaning.

I know the Libertarians claim to be fiscally conservative, and socially liberal, but is there a party thats opposite meaning they support higher taxes and government spending, but dont support abortion, gay marriage, etc. I was just going through my voters pamphlet on the primaries, reading about the different political parties, but could not find one that matches the description. This question is not a reflection on my political views at all, I was just wondering. Thanks.

A British monarch knows more about Britain and it's people than nearly everyone, so she should have more interest than heaping religion onto us.

We hear alot about extreme left or extreme right - does anyone personally classify themselves in either of these groups?

My personal opinion is that personal politics is far to complex for a simple linear polarization, and that almost no one really thinks they are outside the mainstream.

I have always wondered what the motive was behind this awful tragedy, and would force a person to do such a gruesome thing as to kill him. Any sort of help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There are many fiscally conservatives in the democratic party that are for choice. Would they vote republican if the republican platform was pro choice?

Is it our overbearing habit of demanding conformity from other cultures by threat of force?

Would the world be exponentially safer if America ceased it's caustic interference?

Would the so-called 'terrorists' suddenly decide they would choose life over self-sacrifice?

I think so. Don't you?

The secret service refers to the POTUS by a secret code name. Do you have any good suggestions for them. Example: Huckabee could be “Goober” (because of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfSN4fnXwKM )
Hillary could be the “Broom Rider” (for obvious reasons)

I mean before Bush, Blair was well liked and looked at as a very good statesman, well spoken and with good ideas....

anyone know what happened to him? I know someone who says, Bush must have had some scandalous dirt on Blair and used it to coerce his cooperation.

Well, there are quite a few hippies nowadays. Reason: Either they really like drugs or they really don't like the war.
Do you think when Bush is gone, and hopefully when this worthless war ends, the new-age hippie movement will go as well? Really, I'm not only against the war, and I don't want it to end. What are your thoughts on this?
Peace.
