I DON'T think that Obama's skin colour is relevant or important to his politics. I only mentioned it because it is still an issue for some unreconstructed and not very highly evolved Americans, and also, because of this, that his victory will be a groundbreaking event. I'm much more interested in his sensitive and articulate grasp of global and domestic politics and I suspect that given the right support, he could restore the global and domestic reputation of the USA to it's former 'land of freedom' status.

Is there anyone else besides me that thinks this is wrong? The legislature approved this bill and will send it to Corzine's desk so he can sign it. Corzine says that he will, he is anti-death penalty. This will mean that anyone will be excluded from execution. Even the rapists/murderers of children who were on death row will be spared. What do you think about this?

This is from 2000... still looking for the newest pdf...

But looking at this chart...it appears that the middle class, pays the majority of the taxes in this country. The highest 1% pays 18.6%, while the rest of us who make less than $296,828...pay the rest. 50% of the tax entire burden falls squarely on the shoulders of those who make between 100k and 134k..."Middle class".

Does this clear things up a bit for all of those who claim the richest people pay most of the taxes in this country ?

For those that don't know: The United States is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases and the only major industrial country to have rejected the Kyoto protocol ("The objective of the Kyoto Protocol is to achieve "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system") http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Protocol

There's a conference going on in Bali with 189 countries to work on negotiations for a new international climate change agreement.

I really would like to know what the rational is for not working with other countries. Why does it work for other countries to do this but not the US? Would it really hurt?

Under bush and the patriot act, you have effectively lost nearly all the legal rights provided by the Constitution. If you speak out against your government you can be arrested and kept in prison till you die. No miranda rights, no due process, no trial by jury, no protection against torture.. nothing. Why don't people understand this?

A rich guy acting against his own self interest and instead acting in the interest of his country?

"Without the estate tax, you in effect will have an aristocracy of wealth, which means you pass down the ability to command the resources of the nation based on heredity rather than merit," Buffett told the New York Times in 2001. "[Repeal would be like] choosing the 2020 Olympic team by picking the eldest sons of the gold-medal winners in the 2000 Olympics."

Typically, fewer than 2 percent of deaths result in estates sizeable enough to be subject to the estate tax. In 2006, for example, less than 1 percent resulted in taxable estates.

It's estimated that the estate tax will raise roughly $355 billion over the next 10 years under current law, according to the Tax Policy Center.

If it's the government's job to provide healthcare, why not provide us the following as well:

A house
A car
Food
A job

Oh that's right the former Soviet Union tried that! How'd that work out?
