"Soft power" sounds like a good way to go. However I'm only looking at the name of it.
I hope soft power means goods and services, instead of foreign, non Muslim military patrols pretending they are police and candy dispensers.
Since the CIA and 911 Commission Report, and Bin Laden himself have said that we have been attacked because of our out of place presence in the middle east, we SHOULD go to a trade only relationship with middle eastern countries.
If they want to pray to a golden calf, a boy in a well, or a dirty beard while killing eachother, let them.

I'm not sure. I have this guy that emails me...he can tell you. He served in the military and has a DD 214. Since then, he's working for the CIA, Homeland Security or something.
He's hard to listen to...constantly insists that anyone who supports the war and troops in Iraq are chickenhawks if they don't serve.
If you can get past all the silliness, I'm sure he has some good answers.
edit: to answer the question, no, it's not a flip flop. Nexus John Kerry on his support for the Iraq war for a good flip flop.

What else does he have left? He can't win militarily so diplomacy is his only choice. Its desperation not a flip flop.

A flip flop would be "cut and run" This is the natural next phase.

There's no promise from Bush to do this is there? I thought this was all Gates' Idea. Maybe I need to read up on it a little more though.
Anyway, even if he does agree, and he does flip-flop... and least it's a flop in the right direction.
