Trout,they aren't afraid of that or anthing else,least of all popular opinion in the U.S and anywhere. They do as they will to do. They will ignore all information not consonant with their thinly disguised Holy War againast the Arab states - the so-called War on Terrorism. Facts don't matter and reality doesn't frighten them. There are at least as many generals who disagree with the ones you cite. So, you can't really say that one general's opinion is the only right one.
Why can't you acknowledge the fact that there are just as many experts who disagree with your alleged "common sense"?
