The simple answer to that is yes. But, the reasoning may be more complicated.
Prior to Iraq, it was clear to see that energy prices would skyrocket because of an emerging Chinese economy. Iraq, which sits on a major oil reserve, was under sanctions and not selling much oil on the world market. These sanctions couldn't be removed with crazy Saddam controlling Iraq.
Bush's simple solution was to remove Saddam and setup a friendly Iraqi government, one that wouldn't use oil money to cause trouble in the world.
What Bush didn't understand is that the bad guys also know that whoever controls the middle-east oil fields controls the world. They saw the removal of Saddam as an opportunity.
So, what do we do at this point? Do we just leave Iraq and let the oil wealth fall into the hands of the bad guys? Is there a workable solution to keep Iraq in friendly hands?

Whoever is elected in 2008 will either protect our country or give it away. Who can you count on to prevent amnesty of millions?
