The simple answer to that is yes. But, the reasoning may be more complicated.
Prior to Iraq, it was clear to see that energy prices would skyrocket because of an emerging Chinese economy. Iraq, which sits on a major oil reserve, was under sanctions and not selling much oil on the world market. These sanctions couldn't be removed with crazy Saddam controlling Iraq.
Bush's simple solution was to remove Saddam and setup a friendly Iraqi government, one that wouldn't use oil money to cause trouble in the world.
What Bush didn't understand is that the bad guys also know that whoever controls the middle-east oil fields controls the world. They saw the removal of Saddam as an opportunity.
So, what do we do at this point? Do we just leave Iraq and let the oil wealth fall into the hands of the bad guys? Is there a workable solution to keep Iraq in friendly hands?

This is one of the best questions that I have read all month. Thank you! Of course its all about the Oil and you pose an interesting scenario in regards to what do we do now. Some experts say that we should leave Iraq, with the concession that if we leave we are entitled to the Oil at a fair price (Right, like they couldn't go back on their word). Some say that we have to stay there to protect the oil so that we can get it. This is but the first of many battles over oil, and it ain't gonna stop here. Thanks for asking this question.

You are on the right track but you need to go back about 15 years earlier. Crazy Saddam had a goal to take over the middle east and control all of the oil. That is why he invaded Kuwait. The United States is not alone in this war and stability in the middle east will benefit more than just us.

If the conflict with Iraq is all approximately oil, then why are not we getting all of it now that we've occupied that u . s . a . and why are we paying lots extra for gas now? Even by way of u.s. is finding out to purchase the rehabilitation of the Iraqi oilfields we are allowing them to sell their oil to whomever they please. maximum of their oil is being offered to different international locations to boot the U. S.. the actual reason for the conflict is Iraq grew to become right into a significant sponser of international terrorism decrease than Saddam Hussein. isn't it astounding that by fact the Iraq conflict began there hasn't been a significant terrorist assault against the U. S. everywhere interior the worldwide. till now it appeared like there grew to become into one each and every few months. There could desire to be something happening it is distracting those old terrorists. i ask your self what it is?

I dont know much about Iraq and the politics over there, but from what i can gather, the people are scared or dont want anything to do with easterners.... and why should they??

I mean if a whole heap of Iraqis came to Australia and started telling me what to do, id be a little upset myself.

I think to a certain extent, they need to be left to their own devices... but i think they should at the essence change their method of governing from dictatorship to a democracy... if it is what they want, if not, i pitty them.

Ultimately that oil is in that country... we cant tell them what to do with it cos its theirs, not ours..... finally, if we want to get by in this world, we need to find an alternative to non renewable fuels such as petroleum.... it really is the only solution!
