Maybe, its just me, but it seems that the pickings are slim for our next president. All the candidates appear to be feeding off of what Bush has/hasn't done for their campaign and none have offered any real original vision for their possible term. New candidates are throwing their hats in the ring every day hoping to grab what scraps are left of the presidency which makes them all less appealing.

I'd love to see a candidate recognized for their attributes and not their race or gender. Don't get me wrong; diversity is great, I just don't think it should be the campaign slogan.

Anyway. I have no high hopes for 2008. How about you?

I just read that this bill didn't pass in the senate. I know this was one of their main priorities. I was just wondering. Are the Democrats going to keep up on their promises, or is this just something they are doing to win the elections in '08?

In the recent State of Union speech bush said "The great question of our day is whether America will help men and women in the Middle East to build free societies and share in the rights of all humanity. And I say, for the sake of our own security . . . we must. " Does this mean Iran is next and Then possibly to other countries???

I'm chairman of a local Chemical Networking group, and our US profession is being devastated by outsourcing all the chemical plants to India and China. Over 50 plants are being shut down and moving out of the country. We would never be able to fight a war without chemicals especially because China and India would never support us in a time of conflict. Not to mention the devastation of US chemists who are now out of work. Also China and India have very lax enviornmental laws, so they can pollute the enviornnment very easily and save money that way. Don't you think this is a disgraceful and distructive policy to allow this happen?

The United States remains the best country on earth in which to live. Witness all of the immigrants who come here for a better life. We have unsurpassed freedoms and opportunities found no where else in the world. I am grateful and fortunate to be an American. Sure, we have problems. Our country has faced problems of nearly every kind and nature since it was founded. But, we have survived and become a better place to live over the long run. So, isn't it time for those Americans who relentlessly bash America to take a hard look at what this country offers to them and affirm that they too are fortunate to be Americans?

As far as I can see, it only helps wealthy and upper middle class families, it does nothing to help the people who need it most, the working poor and families making less than $60,000 a year who do not have insurance through their employers.
