Generally speaking, republicans want taxes lowered. This would cut programs for the poor while helping the wealthy to keep more of their money.

If the government controls health care they will also be granted full access to your medical records. This will be necessary to determine claim payments and validity of care. It won't be long before they compile real statistics which draw conclusions about what is good for your health. After all your health will become an issue of public concern at this point because your care will be funded by tax dollars. The city of New York is banning transfat. Transfat is bad to be sure, but are we not adults who can make decisions about what we consider best for our health. How long would it be before you are told what kinds of food you can eat and even more importantly where you can eat those foods, based on a standard set by the government about what best serves the public interest. Now I realize this is an extreme position, but it is intended as a thought experiment. Feel good solutions and well meaning legislation have a tendency to go to far.

Everyone says that the taxes are higher in countries where there is universal health care and that there are fewer health choices.

If you were born the poorest of poor, you still have a right to at least basic healthcare. I don't know how you grow up and get a good job to support yourself if you die in infancy.

Please, names and affiliations only. I already have heard the conspiracy story. Now I would like the names of the people involved, and what groups or organizations they were/are affiliated with. If you say gold was stolen, then give me the total amount, who it was stolen from. If you say explosives were used, then who supplied them, who installed them, who detonated them. If you say non commercial airliners were used, then tell who owned them, who flew them. I really want to know. If a parent dies than the child is sent social security checks each month until they are 18. Is the amount of the check the same for everybody or does it matter how much the parent made? Is the remaining parent suppose to save the money or spend it for food and stuff?

I ask because my grandmother (father of my dead dad) said "oh, you must have so much money saved away for college from your ss checks." And I didn't know what she was talking about. My Mom and Step-Dad used it.

There are people who literally spend their whole lives on welfare... I'm not suggesting there shouldn't be welfare for people who actually need it like victims of hurricane Katrina, but when someone doesn't work at all in their whole life, and get money for it... isn't that stupid?

Our time on this earth is minor in comparison to the geologic and ecologic timescales. The Earth has endured many changes over it's long history. How is it that we can honestly believe that we can predict cycles of the earth accurately given our limited observable knowledge of what has occurred over the entire history? Accepting this basic concept is it possibly true that scientists who support the man made global warming theory may be wrong, or may have another agenda entirely such as governent funding? Let's not forgot that the whole debate has reversed course in just the last 30 years from global cooling to global warming. This is not a debate on whether global warming is occurring, but rather a question of cause and effect.
