It depends on which sence, cents or sense.

The UK has a higher minimum wage, higher housing costs, and a lower percentage of people in absolute poverty. For an semi-skilled worker who doesn't want to start their own business, the UK makes more sense. But for the more ambitious...

The UK could eventually outdo the USA in per capita income (Luxembourg does). But with the population growth of both countries, I doubt the UK will ever outdo the USA in gross domestic product (unless the Brits elect a Luxembourger as prime minister).

No. When it comes to economic muscle, the USA is far stronger and mightier than UK. However, if it was a case of USA versus EU, then I think USA could lose.

The EU already controls a massive 43 per cent of world wide trade, while the USA controls 21 per cent of same.

UK has considerable more clout in the world of trade and business than it is often given credit for. There is the British Commonwealth of Nations which is much more likely to swing in favour of collective ideas than allow itself to be run from Washington.

No, at present but US imposes a variety of unfair trade practices. However, a unified EU would be economically more powerful that US and could force them to remove their slimy, cheating trade practices. China is an up and coming market and there is some reason to believe their rise will weaken US more than UK. I think the future looks bleaker for US than UK.

However, an economically weakened US would probably reduce its aid to places such as Japan, the medium term effect of that is a little unpredictable. Previously, UK might have wished US not to be weakened economically since it might lead to world instability but these days a powerful US seems to be a greater threat to world stability.

Hello.

There are many factors however for example If the working population were equal. Also depends on exports and import statistics again if all were equal.

Geographical focus is also a factor. A difficult question to pin down. There are industries where the US are bigger and vice versa. Oil is probably one of your strong points though you import 50% of your needs !! Get rid of those overweight gas guzzlers and go for european superior vehicles :) You would have to be more specific in your question

No. The United Kingdom has a GDP of about one sixth of the US. The only ones that compete are EU. I think it has to do with size in this case. The US is just far larger than the UK.

Hi, Alan

Yes we could, it is easy. Just convince everyone to start dealing in Euros instead of US dollars on the international markets and the US economy goes bankrupt overnight, the US dollar would become worthless. They rely on what is called the "Petro-dollar"

All oil sales are done in US dollars per barrel, start dealing in Euros per barrel and its bye bye USA economy. They also hold 25% of the world's gold reserves, against which they trade. If everyone asks for their gold back they cannot trade against it.

The American Economy is very delicate because of this. Only needs one spanner in the works!! < WEG>

i think china and russia are the only ones who could come close.
America has the ability to close its doors.
But wait, our tiny nation is one of the biggest economies in the world, and the biggest arms dealer.
So, depending on economic policies, i think we could beat the USa, actually looking at GDP and living conditions such as mortality rate, crime etc, we are already winning hands down
