Everyone says that the taxes are higher in countries where there is universal health care and that there are fewer health choices.

If you were born the poorest of poor, you still have a right to at least basic healthcare. I don't know how you grow up and get a good job to support yourself if you die in infancy.

By the way, in case you assume, I do have a full time job, thanks.

Ihate-- you will NEVER get AIDS? Well, maybe now, thanks to (a) Government education about the causes of AIDS, (b) Government regulation of the blood supply (remember those people who got AIDS from blood transfusions in the 80s? Oh, yeah, they don't count).

The Questioner's point is that there are things we can do better as a community--and there are basic human rights that all citizens of a "civilized" country should be given--this includes primary education, healthcare, and opportunity to make the best in the world. Just as no one can build a road by themselves that goes anywhere, it is exceedingly difficult to procure health care if you just happen to be sick. That's why single-payer systems work.
Sure, there are some problems with socialized medicine (having more to do with the employees than the system itself) but it's certainly costing us more when the uninsured repeatedly go to the emergency room with minor injuries (that could be treated MUCH more easily with prevention or office care).
I am happy to be a taxpayer; I am happy that I can contribute to a community's education, health care, social services, infrastructure, and culture. And considering how much most people pay in this country for health insurance, I would be happy to contribute my "buck -o-five" for some level of universal basic health care.

This is not only about higher tax rates. It is also about inadequate health care. That same infant may die any way because of waiting time. Also if this infant has a rare problem or needs a specialist , one will not be provided for it . There are many procedures that are not offered under this UHC plan. .... In this country you can take that infant to an emergency room or even your state health offices and it will receive good medical care without an appointment. Same goes for the "poorest of poor" in this country.Care is not being refused to people in this country and you really shouldn't give out false information..

Taxes are higher in countries with socialized medicine, this is a fact. Further basic health care is afforded to the poor in this country and always has been. Now is it as responsive or well received as health care provided to people with the ability to pay? The answer is no, but it exists none the less. I think there are things we can do in this country to make health care more responsive and available to all, but socialized medicine and another huge government entitlement is not the answer. I have several reasons why I don't like the idea of socialized medicine, but one of the biggest is that I do not want the federal government in charge of my health care.

How do you figure that healthcare is a "right"? Healthcare is a service which you pay for like any other service. The fact that healthcare is IMPORTANT hardly makes it a right anymore than having a car to get to work, or shelter, or a full time job, or a heated home.

Taxes are high in countries with universal health care because demand is higher than supply. Thus taxes must be raised to make up for that gap.

You do understand supply and demand in regard to socialized health care, right? You do know of the major problems with socialized health care, right?

Sorry, survival of the fittest. I pay $400 a month for my health insurance and it is the best money can buy. Leave my taxes alone. If people can't afford to provide the basic needs of a child they have no business procreating. And no I don't want Hillary care. I've got friends in Canada and it takes weeks to see a specialist and the health care sucks there.

we've an undemanding value tax of 30% and we even have an allowance of tax loose earnings consistent with year and in basic terms earnings above that threshold is taxed. That threshold isn't a one length suits all and relies upon on guy or woman situations. in spite of the shown fact that, 30% of my £20k each year earnings possibly impacts greater heavily on me than a 50% (after allowances) might make on somebody earning circa £150k each year or greater. many people in my earnings bracket (and decrease) have worked hard all our lives yet have not had they opportunities/practise that the intense earnings earners have had. I see no valid clarification why people who earn salaries that are unrealistic for the final public can no longer and don't pay greater in taxes to help fund issues like the NHS. I even have basically had a cynical thought.........the rich get richer and the undesirable get poorer. no longer a clean saying yet, realistically, it quite is the middle training who undergo the brunt at the same time as people who could have sufficient money to pay greater in taxes, frequently, do no longer. i do no longer evaluate myself to be undesirable through fact goodness knows there are tens of millions worse off than i'm yet the two there are tens of millions greater lots greater rich.

Hey there both Killers.

However, I am not rich, and I do not have any health insurance, but I would rather pay the taxes; than die from a nasty disease.

These diseases can kill you if not treated, and I do not want the agony of the wait and pain. Paying my taxes is an AMERICAN way of life, and even the ill are still held accountable for their taxes.

So where is the out! IS there somewhere I could sign up! Until then pay the taxes.

First, that's called a "false dilemma."

Second- Our tax rate is as high as it is because of military spending, period.

It would be possible to lower taxes AND have public healthcare AND a decent public school system if we were not a militaristic empire first and foremost.

* Democrats are not willing to reduce military spending. *

And any so-called conservatives talking about "smaller government" and "lower taxes" are only talking about cutting education, welfare, social programs- when all these together make up a tiny portion of our budget next to the military; which is considered untouchable. The conservative heroes, Reagan and the Bushes, have greatly increased government spending- and blew it all on more war-toys.

Thinning the herd! We all cannot live forever. You have no right to anything that someone else has to pay for! How many hospitals turn you away if you do not have health insurance? None!
