here in Canada we observe loyalty to the party that addresses the issues that we deem are important. It doesnt matter what party is addressing it.However in the US,it seems many people vote for the party (Dems or repubs) because that is their party and they will always vote for that party and they always will.Regardless of what their policies are.Why is this?

The main platform of the democrats for a while has been Bush-bashing. Anything Bush says, they automatically disagree. That's all they talk about...Bush, Bush, Bush. Do they know that he isn't running in 2008? They are going to need something else to stand on if they want to win. But then again, many in this country would probably still vote for a Democrat who has nothing else to talk about other than Bush.

It seems like he is being controlled by forces that are behind the scenes, and his own agenda is unimportant. That brings up another question, does any president really have any influence on the nation they represent, or are they merely a figurehead with no true power ?

"In remarks prepared for delivery Wednesday, (Attorney General)Gonzales says judges generally should defer to the will of the president and Congress when deciding national security cases. He also raps jurists who “apply an activist philosophy that stretches the law to suit policy preferences.”
Absolutely!
Why don't we just get rid of courts altogether and just let the President make ALL the decisions without question?
Pretty soon we can just make any policy or executive decision a "national security" issue.
Not going to a Christian church every Sunday?
"The President of the United States hereby orders all citizens to attend Sunday morning services at the Baptist church of their choice, so that, for national security reasons, we at least know where everyone will be for a few hours every Sunday morning."
"The President of United States orders all US citizens to allow an 'in-residence' monitoring system, that for national security reasons, is necessary for the protect US interests.

I was talking with a friend and he said that Europe carries a purer form of Roman Democracy since European governments are more Republican whereas American practices Greek Democracy since we're more about the vote than representation.

Whats wrong with this country? Our fore fathers are probably turning in there graves! I think we as American citizens should all gather at our borders and shoot anyone who tries to illegally enter this country lets stop this insanity.I consider drug runners, dealers, and the like to be terrorist just like Bin Laden(infact Afghanistan is a drug ran country) Ever lived near a meth lab? its scary. for allowing politicians on both sides of the political 'battlefield' divide us? Aren't we only listening to our 'heros' bash the other side? Let's do each other a favor and listen carefully to both sides and hear what they are actually saying. Let's keep up with how many times our candidate or a member of our chosen party uses the opposing party to make a point. Is it possible that the only leg our chosen party is standing on is the fact that he/she can make us hate the other side?

I joined the U.S. Army in March of 03. That was the heat of the war. It took three days to march into Baghdad. At that time Americans where all about the war and unified on the war effort and had high hopes, but now that we have lost some soldiers. 3000 in three years, as in comparison to the 100,000 plus Iraqies that lost their lives. Now all of the sudden everyone wants to give up and go home. Well it's too late now. If America doesn't stick this thing out, then the rest of world will see us as a bunch of unresolved puss&*$. The sad part is we will have earned it. Every terrorist will know that if things don't go our way, it won't take long and we will turn and run like scalded dogs. The last thing I want to do is go back to Iraq, or to Afgahnistan, but if that's what it takes to keep my kids safe then so be it.

From the latest Yahoo news article:

"The White House said Bush would meet on Wednesday with Republican senators about the president's plans in Iraq. He refused to say who was invited but said that 'probably everybody there is at least skeptical' about the buildup."

Does the president have a plan to cordon off only the people who support him in Congress and "kill off" the rest who don't support his plan in Iraq?

I have found that Americans use the term "liberal" as something that is negative. Calling a person a "liberal" is negative while in Canada we have a Liberal political party that stands for universal health care, personal freedom of choice and environmental controls as an example.

Why the negativeness in the USA on the word??
