I joined the U.S. Army in March of 03. That was the heat of the war. It took three days to march into Baghdad. At that time Americans where all about the war and unified on the war effort and had high hopes, but now that we have lost some soldiers. 3000 in three years, as in comparison to the 100,000 plus Iraqies that lost their lives. Now all of the sudden everyone wants to give up and go home. Well it's too late now. If America doesn't stick this thing out, then the rest of world will see us as a bunch of unresolved puss&*$. The sad part is we will have earned it. Every terrorist will know that if things don't go our way, it won't take long and we will turn and run like scalded dogs. The last thing I want to do is go back to Iraq, or to Afgahnistan, but if that's what it takes to keep my kids safe then so be it.

Well, let's see, you're wrong in several points.

First, not all americans supported the war. For the most part Repubs suported the war and many Dems supported the war -- based on faulty info we were given. I was never crazy about us going in since I knew, like Powell and many others, that it would be a mess.

2nd- even now, there is a majority of repubs and dems alike that do not support the war.

Why? People realize that we were mislead (if not outright lied to), the war as been a failure. The leadership, not the grunts, made way too many mistakes which are now not fixable.
We have spent hundreds of billions of dollars and cost the lives of 3000+ of our soldiers and 500,000+ Iraqis for the wrong reasons.

It has been and continues to be mismanaged and mislead on financial, military and political fronts.

The conditions are getting worse.

If a ship is sinking, you don't stay on it hopping it will stay afloat, you abandon ship and get to safety.

As you said, it's been building up for three years. It's not all of a sudden. There may come a point, because of the religious, cultural and political dynamics in the region, that we decide there is nothing else we can accomplish. At that point we will have to pull out and deal with the consequences later. I think most people agree with that. Where the disagreement comes is in determining if we have reached that point yet.
As far as keeping your kids and my nephew safe is concerned, I hate to say it but I think the damage has already been done.

Possibly because we were all lied to at the start of all this. Do you remember WHY we supposedly invaded Iraq? Do you personally feel good about that part?

I agree, right now we need to stay there. Too much is at stake to leave abruptly. But unless Dubya and crew sort their shiite out, this mess is going to get messier.

In short, we got lied to about going in. Is there really any wonder people are questioning the whole affair at this point?

It sucks that americans have to die in order to keep our world safe but that's just the way it is. I agree with you that we cannot pull out. When in war retreat is never the answer. Sometimes your outmanned and outgunned but sometimes YOUR NOT hang in there and be patient things will get better.

Surprise - the CIA agrees that the only thing the war has done for terrorism and US security has increased the former and decreased the latter.

Thanks for being willing, though.

the American People have the right to think and change their minds, unlike soldiers.
we get a different type of media then you do.
how is fighting in IRAQ got anything to do with your child in America, other then an absent father.
