I was talking with a friend and he said that Europe carries a purer form of Roman Democracy since European governments are more Republican whereas American practices Greek Democracy since we're more about the vote than representation.

In Greece each citizen could attend and vote at a city meeting. When Socrates was tried, he was put before such a group and condemned .

In the Roman Republic, the populace was general divided between 2 assemblies based on class. The Senate was mainly the patrician class and the Tribunal assembly was generally plebian. Voting was based on Tribe, each having a vote. There were 2 urban tribes for the majority of city dwellers and a dozen or so rural tribes. This was far from one man one vote.

I would say the biggest difference between Europe and the US is the proportional representation of small splinter groups. In the US a candidate usually needs to gather a coalition of interests to acheive a plurality of the votes.

it is an fairly open ended question... you particularly need to pinpoint the term interior the historic previous of each and every civilization to be waiting to make a precise assessment. right here is an fairly simplified version that would assist you to narrow your question: Rome better from a monarchy under the Etruscian kings to a representative republic, to the Roman Empire. Greece better from small cities which each and each and each had their very very own version of a central authority, (many have been democracies, in spite of the undeniable fact that there are various diffused modifications b/w the countless cities) to an empire under Alexander. Greece then devolved into a number of smaller empires after Alexander's dying. those kingdoms might later fall to the legions of Rome. EDIT: See the two solutions right now under mine for terribly informative insights...
