I could not find any language in the Constitution that requires this! If there is no constitutional basis for the general election of the president, how did the practice begin? As far I can tell, electoral college members don't even need to pick an actual candidate for the office. The could pick anybody, as long as one of their 2 choices is from a state other than where the elector resides.

It's a frightening thought given some of the people out there but it would be fun (Bush and Blair beware!) Would it encourage more people to vote?

I dont get it, he has 2 years experience in the Senate, and has done absolutley nothing for the people of Illinois. i hate to say it, but i think its because hes the first black man to run that is backed by the democratic party. im not a racist, but im not blind. im sure there are people that will challenge that statement here. but thats to be expected, i just think the president, no matter how well spoken, should have a little more that 2 years of experience. even if he did something good in those 2 years (again, hes done nothing), in my opinion hes still not ready.
